It was with a huge sigh of relief that SHAWCO settled down after the beginning-of-the-year rush to advertise and recruit learners in the community, recruit and train volunteers and align the organisation towards providing the best services to about eight thousand people who are directly involved in, and benefit from, SHAWCO’s activities. But then, we all realised again that, in the uniqueness of SHAWCO being a student-run organisation, there is a constant need for mentorship, training, evaluation and streamlining on a continuous basis. I call this our continuous innovation process. Everybody in SHAWCO is encouraged to think up innovative ways to sustain the services that are currently being offered and also to think up new ways of serving the communities in Cape Town, provided that these activities are sustainable and bring about long term and lasting benefits to the people we serve.
